LearningFlow vs Canva
Canva makes better-looking slides than we do, and its template and brand tooling is ahead of ours. LearningFlow treats a deck as one piece of a longer job: the slides arrive as a file beside the spreadsheet, the video and the class the work is set to.

Choose Canva if
Choose Canva when the deck itself is the deliverable and it has to look right in the hands of people who are not designers.
- Forty staff need on-brand decks and posters from one set of brand templates.
- A K-12 school wants a free editor for teachers and students, with FERPA and COPPA certification.
- The open evening needs a 300 dpi print PDF as well as the slides.
Choose LearningFlow if
Choose LearningFlow when the deck is one step in a job that ends with a class having done the work.
- A Year 7 lesson needs slides, a marking rubric and a quiz, all set the same afternoon.
- A college wants completion written to its own LRS as xAPI, not left inside a design tool.
- Your own timetable software has to run the job by API and pay per run, with no seats bought.
Where the two are built differently.
One part of the job, done well.
This is a good product at what it does. The question for a school is what else is on the invoice: each remaining job is another product, another bill, another set of logins, and a handover you do by hand every time.
Idea to a class that has done it.
One login, one pool of credits, one place the spending shows up. A video drops into a lesson, the lesson becomes an assignment, the assignment writes to a base and an app reads it — nothing is exported and re-imported.
What each one does.
Written from each product's own documentation. Where something is true only on a higher tier, the row says so.

|---|---|---|
| Template library | 1.6 million templates, 4.7 million free assets and 1,000 plus design types in the editor. | No template library. The 59 tools in Flow Designer write the content, not the layout. |
| Brand control | Brand kits, brand templates, brand controls and design approval workflows, up to 1,000 kits on Enterprise. | No brand kit and no approval route. A file comes back styled the way the generator made it. |
| Who owns the work | Designs belong to the person. A Teams, Business or Enterprise admin can transfer someone's content before removing them, but Canva states that if a member leaves on their own, their content cannot be transferred. | The organisation owns the work from the moment it is made, and it never moves to another organisation. Removing a member deletes their place on the team, not the work they made. |
| How AI is paid for | A monthly allowance per person, up to 400 Premium or 40 Ultra uses on Business and Enterprise, never pooled. | Credits, not seats. Personal, organisation and enterprise wallets stay separate, so a teacher's free monthly grant never pays for the school's work. |
| Choosing the model | Three quality tiers, Standard, Premium and Ultra. Canva picks the model behind each tier and swaps it as better ones arrive, though named apps such as DALL-E and Imagen can be added for images. | Flow Designer reaches Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek among others, with no plan gate on the list. |
| Who gets which feature | Permissions sit on roles and groups, so AI features are switched for a group rather than one named person. | Seven capabilities switched per member, then opted into. assignment-creator requires flow-creator first. |
| Building working software | Canva Code returns an interactive design backed by one private sheet, capped at 999 rows and 104 columns, and edits made in the sheet do not flow back. | One solution can hold several apps on one database, each with its own scoped, expiring, revocable contract. |
| Calling it from your systems | Connect API is open to all, but a private integration for your organisation alone needs Canva Enterprise. | POST /task/:taskId with an x-api-key, optional SSE streaming, per-key credit top-up and usage reporting. |
What comes with it here.
A real Linux machine
Work with AI runs Python 3.12, pandas, openpyxl, LibreOffice and Pandoc in a sandbox with the network off.
A narrated whiteboard video
One sentence becomes an MP4, in 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1, with subtitles off, as a sidecar .srt, or burned in.
Records in your own LRS
xAPI package ingest, a self-hosted SQL LRS, or statements pointed at the LRS your institution already runs.
Students past K-12
Students hold their own accounts, join codes and assignments in colleges and corporate training, not schools only.
Where Canva is the better choice
If the deck is the deliverable, Canva wins on craft and we would say so to your face. A comms lead who needs forty consistent decks, a poster and a social pack, made by staff who have never opened a design tool, should buy Canva Business at US$250 a year per person and stop there. A K-12 school gets Canva Education free, with student accounts, classes and links to Google Classroom, Canvas and Teams, though Canva lists Canva AI 2.0, the Memory Library and connectors for its paid plans. We have no template library, no brand kit and no approval workflow, and we are not building one.
The whole stack against Canva.
The table above compares the two at the job they share. This one runs every capability past both, because what a school is choosing between is usually a tool that does one job and a workspace that does many. Hover any mark to see what it means, and a partial one to see exactly what is limited.

Before they decide.
Can we run both, or do we have to pick one?
Run both. A deck from Work with AI is a real .pptx, so it opens in Canva and can be restyled with your brand template there. Nothing in LearningFlow asks you to give up a design tool, and Canva keeps its own login, billing and assets.
If the teacher who built our materials leaves in July, who keeps them?
The organisation does. Work belongs to the organisation from the moment it is made, so removing the teacher ends their access and leaves the lesson plans, flows and bases where they are. An admin can also list library tools whose owner has left and hand them to another member. In Canva an admin can transfer a member's designs before removing them, but Canva states that if a member leaves on their own, their content cannot be transferred.
Do we buy seats?
No. You buy credits instead of seats, and no subscription is needed to start. Canva is per person: Pro at US$144 a year, Business at US$250 a year, with Enterprise and Campus quoted by their sales team.
Is the AI our teachers get the same AI a paying business gets?
In Canva, no. Canva lists Canva AI 2.0, the Memory Library and connectors for Pro, Teams, Business and Nonprofit. Canva Education and Free get a smaller set, such as Magic Write and Background Remover, with a monthly cap on use. In LearningFlow the model list is not tied to a plan, seat or tier. The only gate is a per-organisation admin override.
We are a university, not a school. Is any of this free?
Not in Canva. Canva Education is K-12 only, so colleges and universities buy Canva Campus or Canva Enterprise at quoted prices, and corporate training buys Business or Enterprise. LearningFlow has no separate schools tier. The same credits, capabilities and student accounts apply whoever you are.
